My career in tourism and hospitality began at Hilton International, where I joined as a management trainee. It was a formative experience that taught me the fundamentals of service, attention to detail, and the discipline that great hospitality demands.

In 1999, I was invited to join United Holidays, marking the start of my journey in Destination Management. Within a few short years, I was heading the inbound tour division at a fairly young age, managing some of the UK's leading tour operators including Saga Holidays and Hayes & Jarvis, while also opening new markets such as France, Spain, and India.

During this period, I had the privilege of serving two separate stints on the central committee of SLAITO (Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators), the apex body for inbound tourism in Sri Lanka. I was appointed to a Presidential Committee on Cruise Tourism Development by then-President Chandrika Kumaratunga and also served as a committee member of the Travel Trade Sports Club, where I introduced the bowling tournament, which remains one of the most popular events in the travel trade sporting calendar to this day. Additionally, Chami was appointed to a Presidential Task Force in Cruise Tourism Development, reflecting his continued contribution to advancing Sri Lanka’s position as a cruise destination. We continue that proud tradition of supporting the travel trade, with Trip Fusion now sponsoring the annual swimming meet.

While handling Saga Holidays, I received an Outstanding Service Award for my work in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami, one of the most challenging and defining experiences of my career. Under my leadership, the Sri Lanka program won multiple awards for excellence, not only for innovative new products but also for maintaining consistently high standards of quality and handling.

These experiences gave me the confidence to build something of my own. In 2009, with an investment from Expolanka, I founded Luxe Asia from the ground up, building it into one of Sri Lanka's top ten inbound DMCs with close to 100 staff and a strong reputation for reliability, creativity, and quality. During that period, I also established a joint venture with Khiri Travel Thailand, extending their footprint from East Asia into Sri Lanka, and another joint venture with AkquaSun India, which went on to win a World Travel Award and positioned Luxe Asia as a key player in developing the Indian market. During this tenure, I was recognised by TTG Asia as one of the Next Gen Travel Leaders. Luxe Asia was later acquired by Thomas Cook, where I went on to serve as CEO of Thomas Cook Sri Lanka.

In 2020, I took charge of Trip Fusion, which had been founded a few years earlier, with the vision of creating something deeply personal - a company built around my own philosophy, culture, and standards.
